Miss Earth Sabah (MES) gives a good kick start for this year by getting involved in a lot of activities that promote environmental awareness. Holding on the phrase “Beauties Nurturing Nature”, in the most recent involvement, May Salitah Naru Kiob, the reigning queen of Miss Earth Sabah 2010 and Mandy Nandu attended a Live Interview at Suria FM last March 25th. During the interview, they discussed and shared their views about preserving the nature and talked about Earth Hour where they urged everybody to participate in it and keep on supporting it by going beyond the hour.
The two beauties also attended Earth Hour celebration at Marina Sutera Broadwalk and became the judges for the Earth Hour Kids Ambassador. May Salitah Naru Kiob also made a special appearance at Breeze Magazine 3rd Anniversary where she delivered a special ‘green’ speech on the current environmental issues and how everybody should inculcate ‘nurturing the nature’ as a habit and part of our daily life. Last week, on the 25th of March, the organizing team of Miss Earth Sabah together with the May Salitah made a courtesy visit with the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Masidi Manjun and discussed how MES could get involved in more environmental awareness campaigns or activities held by the ministry.
During the visit, May Salitah also pointed out that by giving Miss Earth the opportunities to get involved in any campaigns or events that are related to creating awareness and preserving the nature, it will show the true potentials of the girls and reshape the impression of some people that MES is only a beauty pageant no distinct than the others. Upon that request, Datuk Masidi announced that the winner of Miss Earth Sabah 2011 will be appointed as the ambassador of the Environment Action Centre (EAC) where she could utilize her roles in promoting environmental awareness. Datuk Masidi also gives thoughtful good advices about facing life’s challenges with a positive attitude. Mandy Nandu as the Organising Chairman of Miss Earth Sabah 2011 is thankful to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment for supporting Miss Earth Sabah 2011 event that is scheduled to commence from 1st June to 12th June this year. Our representatives from Sabah have made us very proud for winning the title in the national level and represented Malaysia to the international level for two years consecutively. Mandy Nandu represented Malaysia for Miss Earth 2009 international level that was held in Boracay Philippines while Appey Rowenna Januin repeated the same accomplishment last year in Nha Trang, Vietnam. For this year’s event, we welcome females age between 18 to 25 who are interested to learn more about caring and preserving Mother Earth to participate in this prestigious green journey. This year, besides being taught about grooming and building confidence in public speaking, contestants will have the opportunities to enroll themselves in educational activities such as a tour to an eco-composting site, beach cleaning, talks on current environmental issues, and many
more.
Miss Earth is the third-largest international pageant competition after Miss Universe and Miss World. The winners of this pageant play the role as ambassadors that promote environmental awareness and the preservation of Mother Earth. This is a gift nurtures.
